This year's Forefronts symposium will bring together leaders in applied systems biology and early adopters in nephrology to focus on the importance for systems biology approaches in medicine as genone-wide technology platforms generate demands for multilevel, multidiensional analyses to model biological processes.
Key topics include:
- Modelling of complex dependencies in biological systems
- Integrating genetic variance with clinical phenotypes
- Integration of omics data sets along the regulatory continuum
- Implementing systems biology in basic and clinical renal research
- Hands-on seminars: "Bioinformatic boot camp"
For more information, please visit the event website.

Dear colleague,
We are pleased to announce that ISN is organizing its second Forefronts Symposium in 2012 covering Tubulointerstitial Disease in Diabetic Nephropathy taking place in Melbourne, Australia from October 4 - 7, 2012.
Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of end stage renal disease across almost all countries. In this chronic renal disease, dysfunction and expansion of the cortico-tubulointerstitium of the kidney is the best predictor of progression to end stage renal disease. Therefore a greater understanding of the pathogenesis of these diverse changes is required to best assess relevant targets to prevent, reverse or retard diabetic renal disease.
Topic highlights include:
- Micro RNA and extracellular matrix accumulation
- T regulatory cells in the tubulointerstitial compartment
- ATP production and energy bioenergetics in the proximal tubule
- Renal glucose uptake and gluconeogenesis
- Epithelial/Endothelial Myofibroblast Transdifferentiation
- Post translational modification
- Cell trafficking in the proximal tubule
- Taking things outside the body
- Redox imbalance and post-translational modification
- Renal inflammation
- Lessons learnt from podocytes
